		<description>There&#039;s a lot of uncertainty in the present Amazon situation and the picture painted here seems a bit too rosy. I don&#039;t mean to rain on the REDD parade but I live in Brazil&#039;s western Amazon and see a much more complex situation and much uncertainty about the future.

Indeed, some studies have indicated that the coming Amazon droughts produced by warming North Atlantic waters cannot be averted even by ZERO DEFORESTATION. REDD would certainly help an already bad situation to not become worse but it should be portrayed as a solution.

As far as money growing on trees goes, it&#039;s also a can of worms. I explore some of the complexities at http://lougold.blogspot.com/2010/07/can-amazon-thrive-in-21st-century-title.html
