I’m going to Copenhagen in two weeks for the global climate negotiations. Exciting!
But…the nearest hotel with a vacancy, best as I can tell, is in Ystad, Sweden. Yep, Sweden.
Now, this isn’t quite as bad as it sounds to those of us with limited knowledge of the geography of Scandanavia. I’m told it’s 45 minutes by train from Malmo (Ystad is a suburb of Malmo) to downtown Copenhagen. Kind of like staying in Baltimore for an event in D.C. But ideally I’d like to be closer, and so far my obsessive searching on global and European hotel sites, as well my efforts to find a place to crash through Craigslist Copenhagen (yes, there is one), have proved fruitless.
Anyone have a room to share? Or an idea on how to find a place?
I’ll be there from Dec. 11-17. I’ll be hosting an event for the Coalition for Rainforest Nations that sounds terrific, as well as blogging and writing for The Energy Collective, greenbiz.com and fortune.com. I’ll arrange a variety of interviews, did into isssues of carbon finance and global poverty, look into the forestry debate, tour of an offshore wind farm, and attend a Copenhagen Climate Council event with business leaders at Hamlet’s Kronberg Castle.
So you can see why I’m going…even if it means commuting from Sweden.

Bravo Marc. I’m looking forward to reading your dispatches from the climate conference.
Hi Marc!
Just received an email from Beth Davis that you are coming to Copenhagen to participate in Cop 15. As you may know, I have been living here in Denmark for the past 30+ years.
I am a professional singer/songwriter/producer and have been very privileged with recognition for that. My latest cd was released last May with the climate change theme and emphasizes our common responsibility to be active…… I am performing at a few events during the conference- among them for Copenhagen County, Danish Organisation for the Preservatio of Nature and for Learning About Forests.
Anyway, would love to meet you while you are here.
One of my friends is away for the winter, and I could ask him if you could borrow(or rent) his apartment. It is 10 minutes from Copenhagen, in Hellerup, the same town where I live. Let me know if I should try to organize that.
my email is tamra@hopemusic.dk

there’s also couchsurfing.org and http://www.airbandb.com – or probably there’s a Copenhagen Freecycle, where you could post a Wanted: hospitality. Travel safely!!
Dear Marc,
Just want to let you know about the company http://www.hay4you.com, a Copenhagen company that rents out full furnished appartments in Copenhagen area on a week-to-week basis.
Rates are from DKK 3500,- per week depending on the size of the appartment.
Unfortunately booking/reservation are not made online but by calling, so you can’t really tell if there’s any available. If you’re interested, I wouldn’t mind making a call for you. I can see you have some other options, but let me know if you’re interested.
Kind regards,
Bettina Christensen
Sorry, actually you are able to make reservation requests on the website, but you cannot see real-time information on availability…
