Hi there, ive recently just been shocked at my electricity bills lately, paying way too much, im sure we can all agree? I think solar energy is the way to go, easy to set up and pretty self explanatory, and where i live, i can actually sell the power generated back to the grid, Pretty sweet. The post is really nice mate, giving me that extra push to go out plug my appliances in the sun from now on. Cheerio!

The mainreason solar needs to be promoted and supported is because it has the capacity, along with other renewable sources, to free us of dirty energy. In this regard it is unlike any other sector of the market that is in need of support. Compare it to car manufacturers. They also need support, but how do they make the planet a better place to live?

Marc,

You say you believe in solar power. Surely, energy supply is not a mystical matter. A lot of people still believe the sun goes around the earth. The solar industry has got to prove it’s offering the right solution, as with any interest group. Belief is for hippies.

Great points indeed. I also believe there is no reason for special treatment to given to solar, or any other industry for that matter.

Being that it is so admittedly a new industry, what studies have they done regarding the effects of solar power? They've done a great job pointing out how it's better than fossil fuels. Even thrown some money at studying how it will help existing power grids. But nothing is perfect. What have they done to let us know, that 70 years from now we won't be throwing as many stones at solar, as we are currently at fossil fuels?
