Marc, your book on Faith and Fortune is one of my favorites, and I am also a fan of Dan Ariely and his new book on Predictably Irrational. I recall our terrific discussion about your book a few years ago. Here is my recent Fast Company blog post about Ariely and his new book: http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/alice-korngold/leading-companies-good/call-mission-lesson-ethical-leadership-nod-dan-ariel

Marc, you have influenced me to go ahead and check out predictably irrational...also, fully agree that companies had better "walk the talk". I'm not too impressed with the way Starbucks has played its cards lately. As Starbucks becomes more single bottom line focused, upstarts like Green Mountain Coffee are bound to start capturing market share.

Hi Marc - nice to see your post. I can tell you from personal experience, some companies care - and I mean really CARE. There are also differences among companies.

One of the main strengths of for-profit social ventures--double bottom line companies where a social or environmental mission is part of the business model--as opposed to a regular business with a feel-good mission tacked on is that they attract people who want to work for a cause and make a living. And their core cause-related mission isn't going to disappear during tough times. If it does, the company disappears.
