Dear Mr Marriott, I am thankful for the privilege to address a question to you by the internet. My question is: Do you beleive that Sunday is the Lord's Day? If you do why does a business owned and operated by Marriott compel their employees to work on the Lord's day? Sunday, the Lord's Day is a day set apart to refrain from ordinary ativities, and to keep CHRIST foremost in our minds and to worship the Lord, to sing, pray, hear the word of God preached, and partake of the Lord's Supper. The Sabbath, as given by God is a day of rest, it is also a day to commemorate the Resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. When an employee asked to have the day off to attend Church the employee was flatly refused the request. The supervisor of that particular department comes from a foreign country with no regard for God and His religeous principals taught in His word. May we who believe in God and His beloved Son stand up for the truth and defend His teachings by action complying with His word. I have deep reapect for you and wait for a reply to this short note.

Thank You

Marc- I completely agree with you that Bill Marriott has a right to keep his personal views private and to ask that people separate him & his Mormonism from the status of the Marriott Corporation. And, simultaneously, we can boycott whatever organizations don't advocate for values and issues we deem important.
I argue that boycotting Marriott is a bad idea because a boycott would punish the organization for the very support that GLBT-rights activists are fighting for in the worlplace. Just because Marriott's support isn't 'beyond' the HRC's criteria doesn't mean we should trump what they've
done (a lot) for what they haven't done (the next step). On www.AuthenticOrgnaizations.com I have several posts on the Marriott boycott and why it's (mostly) a bad idea... maybe you'll check them out and comment?
Thanks for your insights here.

The Mormon church was famously racist as well. They've chilled out on that but my husband, a Jew from Salt Lake City, said it was well-known that if a black person got off the train in SLC he was politely told to get back on the train.
Ironically, the Mormon church provides a wonderful iinternal social welfare system, tithes, and donates much time and resources to help disadvantaged people. However, I think this is aimed primarily at poor Mormons.
