Marc:

Thanks for this. Our Social Footprint Method provides a means for organizations to track, account for, and report their contributions towards alleviating human suffering in the world, and I encourage companies that are taking steps in that direction to contact us about how to use it.

Regards,

The prevention of these diseases in developing countries is a relatively inexpensive and quick solution to some of their problems. Not only is disease prevention a health issue, but it is also an issue of population control and hunger. One common misconception is that by preventing such diseases there will be more people living in these areas and resources such as food will be more scarce. However, women in developing countries will have fewer children if the children are more likely to survive. Women are afraid that if they don't have enough children, then they will be unable to secure support for their family. This fear and instability creates a vicious cycle whereby the system encourages births and, therefore, more deaths. As we're seeing increasing populations in these countries because of such situations, food becomes even more scarce.

I'm encouraged to hear that programs such as Malaria No More are providing solutions to disease prevention, and thereby, tackling more problems in one swoop.

Marc:
The numbers you cite on malaria are staggering.
Very sad to note that the entertainment-focused media that you used to cover-- rarely do any kind of programming/coverage about "depressing" stories (malaria, drought in sub-Saharan Africa, Rawandan genocide, etc).

Looking at today's standard TV network fare-- it seems that people are interested in two kinds of programming:
1) People experiencing spontaneous violence
2) People becoming fantastically wealthy

Thus I imagine a future game show (combining these two genres) in which volunteers would sit over a dunking water tank
(filled with piranhas). In the show-- depending on their luck in a spin of the wheel--- players would either win a huge fortune, or drop to their certain deaths in the fish tank below.

Somehow "Rwanda RealWorld" looks an unlikely addition to the Nielsen charts.
