Hey Angry African – I am African AND Vegan. The only flaw is your insistence that all Africans be as you paint them to be. My brothers and sisters may raise their eyebrows at my choice to be vegan but at the end of the day, after listening to my reasons, they respect me and other African vegans. ‘We are growing… higher and higher”.

I too am African, pinky-gray in color, but still an African. Whether you eat things with eyes or drink fizzy brown drinks (or both) is an irrelevancy. What is so interesting is the shift in public opinion towards the former multi-national pariahs: Coke and Pepsi. Two clever CEOs with a mature world view have helped turn both businesses around â€“ financially and in terms of their public image. We need a few more similar business leaders, whether they eat tofu or boerewors (fatty South African farmersâ€™ sausage â€“ delicious but very bad for the heart).

Thanks for this! A really good piece – giving us some insights into Isdell. I am from South Africa (and an activist) now in the US and always liked Coke – like most Africans. I recently wrote that people should stop telling us that “they have been there”. ( http://angryafrican.net/2008/03/25/i-have-been-there/ ) but Isdell is different. he actually lived and breathed it – he is an honorary African. Just one major flaw though. He can not be a true African and be a vegan. We eat meat – it’s just part of the culture http://angryafrican.net/2008/01/24/we-eat-meat-get-used-to-it/
